Considering how many apps are available for iPhones and iPods (185,000+ at the time of writing, with four billion downloads), it's not surprising that you can find some designed for actors, directors, drama teachers and theatre fans. Being a great fan of the iPhone, it was no great hardship to road test five of these.

Rehearsal is a fabulous and versatile little app that enables you to upload a script, highlight it and most importantly record any parts you like. Then, for example, you can play back the audio (while you are driving along) and speak your lines inbetween the responses of other characters. It's fun to watch it automatically scroll down as you listen (though not while you are driving of course). It is free to download for a trial period (when you can upload scripts). If you want to upload more scripts after the seven day trial you will need to subscribe - although you can continue working with scripts that you uploaded during the trial period, without paying. You can pay by the script ($1.99), by the month or the year. |
